liminal space at wingspread
between what was and what's next
As the season turns, one evening to slow down and come back to ground. A Frank Lloyd Wright house, a shared table, and sound. Hosted by telos with Davin Youngs.
the threshold
Some of the most important moments in a life or a career happen in between: after one chapter closes and before the next one has a name.
There is a word for that place. Liminal space: the threshold between what was and what comes next. It can feel unsettled, and it is also where real change begins. It is better shared than faced alone.
At telos, this is the ground we work on. You can't think your way across a threshold. You have to let it change you, and that takes a room built for it and good people to share it with.
The Great Hall, where we will gather for dinner.
the venue
In 1939 Frank Lloyd Wright finished a house on the Wisconsin prairie and called it Wingspread. Four wings reach out into the land while the roof over the Great Hall rises toward the sky. At its center stands a great brick chimney, ringed by skylights. After dark, the Great Hall glows like a lantern.
Twenty years later, the Johnson family gave the house away so that people could gather there and think together about things that matter. It has been doing that ever since.
Some evenings are for getting things done. This one is for slowing down, sitting together, and listening.
the sound
Davin Youngs works with the oldest instrument there is: the human voice. In the Great Hall, for one hour, there will be nothing to decide and nothing to produce. Only listening, to the room and to yourself.
Davin calls it a reset: a chance to set things down for a while and come back to yourself.
